ECPS Educational Foundation
The Edgecombe County Public Schools Educational Foundation, established in 2018, is an independent, community-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We work in integral partnership with the Edgecombe County Public Schools to realize their vision: All ECPS scholars will graduate prepared to design their own futures, navigate change, and make the world a better place.
Our mission is crystal clear - to mobilize resources and cultivate community partnerships, ensuring equitable access to the finest education for our students. Central to our mission is the unwavering support we provide to the ECPS Scholar Teacher Program, empowering educators and inspiring the brilliant minds of tomorrow.
Welcome to our digital home, where we invite you to explore the profound impact we have on our community and the limitless potential we unlock in our students. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for Edgecombe County's scholars.
Edgecombe County’s Grow-Your-Own Teacher Initiative
The ECPS Educational Foundation Future Teacher Fund is dedicated to funding the ECPS School Scholar Teacher program to support diversity in education in North Carolina, to cultivate a pipeline of the next generation of teachers and build the economic and educational resiliency of our North Carolina communities by cultivating home-town talent.
From 2006 to 2018, one of every five teachers in ECPS left the district each year on average — a trend found in many rural districts. The Scholar Teacher Program was designed to help the Edgecombe County school district recruit diverse, high-quality teachers to combat that 20% teacher turnover rate.
The Scholar Teacher program introduces students at Edgecombe Early College High School to the basics of teaching and provides them with classroom experience in their local schools. Students graduate with an associate’s degree and can apply for a $10K college scholarship every year for three years.
By accepting the scholarships, the students agree to return to teach in Edgecombe County for three of their first seven years after graduating from college.

Why your support matters
Your support for the ECPS Educational Foundation is an investment in the future of Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS). Primarily, it fuels the ECPS Scholar Teachers Promise Scholarship, where promising individuals receive financial support for college education in exchange for their commitment to return and teach at ECPS after graduation. But your impact goes beyond scholarships. Your contributions also support crucial programs, including after-school initiatives for added student learning opportunities and the ECPS County Line Demerger, improving educational resources within our county. We're all about nurturing local talent, "growing our own" educators, and "investing in our future." Your generosity is the driving force behind these efforts, creating a brighter tomorrow for Edgecombe County. Thank you for your unwavering support.
