To Our Edgecombe County Public Schools Family,
On behalf of Edgecombe County Public Schools, I extend an enthusiastic “WELCOME” to the students, parents, staff, families and community of East Rocky Mount—the newest members of the ECPS family.
As of today, students, schools and related property in East Rocky Mount, and previously part of the Nash County School District, are now part of Edgecombe County Public Schools.
During the past year, our entire ECPS team has worked tirelessly to transition over 1,300 students, four schools, two additional buildings and a multitude of assorted educational accessories and equipment as part of the merger.
We appreciate all of the input, feedback and support from numerous community meetings, countless individual conversations, neighborhood visits and the untold efforts of so many to ensure a successful merger transition.
We are grateful for the tremendous support from the Edgecombe County Board of Education, the ECPS staff, the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners, the County Manager, and the Sheriff.
We appreciate the cooperation of so many other individuals and organizations, including Nash County Superintendent Dr. Steve Ellis and his staff, the Nash County Board of Education, and the Nash County Board of Commissioners.
Moving forward, we will continue the process of readying the physical plants of our four new schools, finalizing staff hires, and transitioning support systems needed for the first traditional calendar school day on Monday, August 26.
Awaiting students on the first day of school will be the outstanding principals who are excited to serve East Rocky Mount families.
Cynthia Gorham (Fairview Elementary), Lindsay Lee (D. S. Johnson Elementary), Brandon Lucas (Baskerville Elementary), Charis Saunders (J. W. Parker Middle School), Roderick Tillery (North Edgecombe High School), and Shavon Creque (Edge Academy of Health Sciences) have an outstanding track record of nurturing student academic success and being leaders in the school communities they serve.
Even with all of our planning, we understand that much work remains. We will continue to monitor the transition process closely and adapt as needed while continuing to provide important information for students, staff, parents, and the community.
Moving forward, our most important work will remain focused on providing unique and outstanding educational opportunities for ALL Edgecombe County students across our county. This will require hard work and all of us working together, because there are no shortcuts to ensuring the future success of our communities’ children.
