Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) is excited to announce that it has been awarded a $62 million Needs-Based Grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) for the development of the New North Edgecombe School of Innovation, serving students from Pre-K through 12th grade.

This project will consolidate three schools in northern Edgecombe County, including Coker-Wimberly Elementary School, Phillips Middle School, and North Edgecombe High School. The initiative includes the renovation of North Edgecombe High School, the construction of a new Career and Technical Education facility, the creation of a new PreK-8 facility, and the refurbishment of grounds and athletic fields.

The funding will significantly benefit the students and community by providing a state-of-the-art educational facility designed to foster innovation, creativity, and academic excellence.

"We are thrilled to be able to share this good news with our community," said Dr. Andy Bryan, Superintendent of Edgecombe County Public Schools. "This grant will enable us to create an environment where students can thrive and achieve their fullest potential. We are committed to providing exceptional educational opportunities for all our students, and this new school is a significant step towards that goal."

Eric Evans, Edgecombe County Manager, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "This is an exciting opportunity for Edgecombe County. This investment in the North Edgecombe School of Innovation will create a transformative educational environment, helping to prepare our young citizens for the job opportunities of tomorrow while strengthening our community today."

Dr. Evelyn Wilson, Chair of the ECPS Board, expressed her gratitude as well, saying, "I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners for their unwavering support. Their commitment to education is crucial as we embark on this significant project that will benefit our students and community for generations to come."

ECPS is ready to move forward with the planning and development phases with input about the design from families, educators, and community members, as the project will take more than three years to complete.

The new school will feature modern classrooms, cutting-edge technology, and collaborative spaces that encourage student engagement and active learning. It will also provide ample opportunities for extracurricular activities, ensuring a well-rounded education for all students.

ECPS extends its gratitude to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for their support and investment in the future of Edgecombe County's students.
