The Edgecombe County Board of Education is seeking input from citizens for
redrawing the Board’s seven election districts.
On Monday, November 25, 2024, the Board voted to develop three proposed maps
for consideration, with one of the maps prioritizing keeping designated communities
of interest together. A community of interest (COI) is a neighborhood or other
historical, cultural or economic community within an identifiable geographic area.
If you would like to propose a designated COI for consideration in the redistricting
process, please submit it either in person, by mail, or by email to
All submissions should be received no later than the
end of the day on Monday, January 6, 2025.
All submissions should include a clear description of the COI to be considered, with
as much detail as possible. If the COI does not already have a clear, recognized
boundary – such as a named neighborhood, township, or fire district – a map should
be submitted as well. The following local websites may be helpful:

For drawing a new, custom community shape, you may print (or screenshot) a map
and draw a boundary on it. Maps created with online mapping tools such as Dave’s
Redistricting App, https://davesredistricting.org/, may also be submitted.
Draft maps are tentatively scheduled to be presented to the Edgecombe County
Board of Education at its February meeting. The public will have additional
opportunities to share input with the Board about proposed redistricting plans before
a final decision is made.
