We are thrilled to announce that the ECPS Family Resource Center has been awarded a generous grant from the Positive Childhood Alliance North Carolina (PCANC) to fund the "Building Bridges for Families" project! This groundbreaking initiative is set to address the pressing needs of Edgecombe County Public Schools families and the wider community by providing comprehensive support and invaluable resources.
Here’s what the project will focus on:
🔹 Parenting Programs: Offering structured classes on child development, positive discipline, communication skills, and recognizing abuse signs to empower parents with the knowledge and tools they need.
🔹 Concrete Support for Families: Facilitating support circles, child abuse awareness campaigns, and family support awareness initiatives to create a stronger, more informed community.
🔹 Information and Referral to Resources: Providing crucial information on child maltreatment prevention, Medicaid expansion, substance abuse, financial literacy, basic legal rights and responsibilities, and organizing food giveaways to support our families.
🔹 Family Navigation/Case Management Services: Offering personalized guidance and support to help families navigate challenges and access the resources available to them.

The NC School Performance Grades and Growth metrics were released this week, and we are thrilled to announce that several Edgecombe County Public Schools exceeded or met growth expectations for the 2023-24 school year!
A special shoutout to Edgecombe Early College High School and J.W. Parker Middle School for being in the top 5% in the state for growth, and to Martin Millennium Academy for being in the top 10% for growth!
Southwest Edgecombe High School Cadet Reanna Pettaway has been honored with the Celebrate Freedom Foundation JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics. Cadet Pettaway was recognized for her outstanding achievements, including her insightful essay on "How will unmanned aerial vehicles or drones impact the Nation's Workforce?"

This afternoon, we were honored by a special visit from Mr. Eddie Pettaway, who brought his annual delivery of beautiful mums to brighten our central office and schools.

His ongoing kindness not only enhances our work environment but also serves as a powerful reminder of the positive impact one person can make.

We had an amazing turnout at Open House events at all traditional schools across the district last evening! It was wonderful to see so many excited students, supportive families, and dedicated staff coming together to kick off the new school year! From every zip code in our county, our community showed up strong, ready to make this year the best one yet for our students!

Many of our teacher assistants are participating in professional development this week through the North Carolina Ed Corps. This initiative equips them with the skills and strategies needed to serve as tutors, offering targeted support to our students. This investment in our staff not only enhances their professional growth but also strengthens our ability to provide individualized learning opportunities for every student.
🚨 TRAINING ALERT 🚨
Safety Drill Notice
Tomorrow morning starting at 8:00 a.m., local law enforcement, EMS, and fire units will be conducting a safety drill at Coker-Wimberly Elementary School and North Edgecombe High School in Leggett.
During this training, emergency units will respond from Coker-Wimberly to North Edgecombe. Expect to see a large presence of emergency vehicles in the area from multiple agencies.
Please be aware, this is a simulated school shooting drill. You may hear gunshots near the schools, but rest assured, this is only a training exercise. There is no danger to students or the public.
