Celebrating Our Board of Education!
As January comes to an end, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to our dedicated Edgecombe County Board of Education during School Board Appreciation Month!
Our board members work tirelessly to shape the future of our students, support our educators, and strengthen our schools. Their leadership and commitment ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education.
Join us in thanking our Board of Education for their hard work and passion for education!

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all schools & offices will be closed on Monday.

During Monday evening’s School Board Meeting, our dedicated School Resource Officers (SROs) from the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office were recognized for their commitment to keeping our students, staff, and schools safe. Our SROs play a vital role in building positive relationships, fostering safe learning environments, and serving as trusted mentors within our school communities.
We are grateful for their partnership and service! Thank you to our SROs for making a difference every day in Edgecombe County Public Schools!

Edgecombe County Public Schools has been notified by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) of a statewide cybersecurity incident affecting student and staff data stored in PowerSchool, a Student Information System we used in previous school years. PowerSchool has confirmed that the threat has been contained. We are actively working with the NCDPI and PowerSchool to determine which data fields were involved and identify any necessary next steps. In the coming days, impacted students and staff will be notified. NCDPI has assured us that there was no action Edgecombe County Public Schools could have taken to prevent this incident, and we remain committed to taking all necessary precautions to protect the security of student and staff information

Congratulations to the ECPS Employee of the Month for January—Dr. Bryan Ruffin, English/Language Arts teacher from Phillips Middle School.
Dr. Ruffin’s exceptional dedication and leadership make him a vital part of the Phillips community. He plays a key role on both the Instructional Leadership Team and the School Improvement Team, where his collaborative spirit and innovative thinking guide the school’s success.
As a mentor to new teachers, he provides invaluable guidance and encouragement, helping to foster a culture of learning and professional growth. His positive attitude and enthusiasm are contagious, motivating students and colleagues alike.
Congratulations, Dr. Ruffin, and thank you for your outstanding contributions to Phillips Middle School and your students!

Special thanks to Greg Sessoms State Farm for sponsoring this award!

We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Teresa Everett Horne for her heartfelt generosity and kindness! Ms. Horne recently visited to donate a large collection of coats, gloves, and toboggans for our Winter Coat Drive, ensuring our students stay warm and comfortable during the chilly months ahead.
This special act of giving was made in loving memory of her late husband, Edgecombe County Sheriff Corporal Gregory Horne, and on behalf of Endtime Harvest Outreach Ministries.
We extend our deepest thanks to Ms. Horne and Endtime Harvest Outreach Ministries for their compassion and commitment to supporting our students. Your generosity truly warms not only hands and hearts but also reminds us of the power of community and kindness.

Stay Informed About Board Redistricting!
We’re keeping our community in the loop as we embark on the important process of redrawing the Board’s seven election districts. To ensure timely, transparent communication, we’ve launched a redistricting listserv—an opt-in service where families, staff, and community members can receive key updates and announcements directly to their email inboxes.
This redistricting process comes as we have welcomed four new schools in our district. Our goal is to develop a plan that guarantees equitable representation and supports high-quality education for every student in Edgecombe County.

Based on the latest weather forecast from the National Weather Service and with guidance from local Emergency Management, all Edgecombe County Public Schools will release students two hours early tomorrow, Friday, January 10, 2025.
In addition, all athletic and extracurricular events scheduled for Friday and Saturday are canceled.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to ensure the safety of our students, staff and families.

Due to the forecast of below-freezing temperatures and the potential for slick spots on roads, all ECPS schools will operate on a two-hour delay for students and staff tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
Stay safe and warm!

Due to lower than anticipated temperatures overnight and the possibility of black ice on bridges and overpasses in certain areas of our county, all schools will have a 2 hour delay today, Monday, January 6th. This delay is for students and staff. We apologize for the late notice but feel this is necessary for the safety of our students and staff.

We’re excited to welcome our students back on Monday, January 6, as we kick off the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year!
See you on Monday, students! Let’s make 2025 amazing!

Six talented students from Princeville Elementary School presented at the NCDPI Hour of Code Showcase in Raleigh yesterday. They had the incredible opportunity to showcase their coding skills before members of the General Assembly and the NC Department of Public Instruction. Way to represent Princeville Elementary and Edgecombe County with such brilliance and poise. We're so proud of their hard work and dedication!
