ECPS is transitioning to a new student information system, NCSIS powered by Infinite Campus. The new NCSIS has additional features to help you monitor your child’s educational progress and a mobile-friendly experience that makes it easier to see everything on the go! This system will replace PowerSchool as your one-stop-shop for grades, attendance, assignments and other important school information. Many of our teacher assistants are participating in professional development this week through the North Carolina Ed Corps. This initiative equips them with the skills and strategies needed to serve as tutors, offering targeted support to our students. This investment in our staff not only enhances their professional growth but also strengthens our ability to provide individualized learning opportunities for every student.

🚨 TRAINING ALERT 🚨 Safety Drill Notice Tomorrow morning starting at 8:00 a.m., local law enforcement, EMS, and fire units will be conducting a safety drill at Coker-Wimberly Elementary School and North Edgecombe High School in Leggett. During this training, emergency units will respond from Coker-Wimberly to North Edgecombe. Expect to see a large presence of emergency vehicles in the area from multiple agencies. Please be aware, this is a simulated school shooting drill. You may hear gunshots near the schools, but rest assured, this is only a training exercise. There is no danger to students or the public. Thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our schools and community!

Empowering our educators to inspire young minds! Many of our elementary teachers are diving into Numbers Lab training today, sharpening their skills to make math engaging and accessible for every student. We are excited to see the impact in our classrooms in the new school year!

🌧️ Tropical Storm Debby Updates 🌧️ Due to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Debby, we have important updates regarding our schedules and activities: Remote Learning Days: Thursday & Friday: Edgecombe Early College High School & Edge Academy of Health Sciences will shift to remote learning. Summer Bridge Week: All activities at our traditional high schools are canceled for Thursday. Staff Workdays: Thursday & Friday: ECPS staff will have remote workdays. Athletics: All practices and events are canceled for Thursday & Friday. Please stay safe, stay informed, and take all necessary precautions during this time. We will continue to provide updates as needed.

Several Middle School Science teachers and administrators are actively participating in the UNC Grand Challenges professional development this week, proudly sponsored by the UNC College of Education. This incredible opportunity allows our teachers to delve into curricular and instructional changes aligned with the new Science standards, ensuring our students receive the highest quality education. Together, we are committed to fostering innovation and excellence in our classrooms!

We are thrilled to announce that Annette Kent has been selected to lead Connections Learning Academy, ECPS's Alternative Learning Program! With a wealth of experience and a passion for education, Kent has previously served as the Assistant Principal of Stocks Elementary School, Princeville Elementary School, and Phillips Middle School. Her dedication to student success and innovative approaches to learning make her the perfect fit to guide Connections Learning Academy to new heights. Phillips Middle School Principal Quarry Williams (pictured right) recently served as a moderator for a session titled "Mental Health in Education" at the Hunt Institute State Policy Fellows Conference. During this session, he addressed the mental health challenges faced by students and emphasized the crucial role school leaders play in enhancing the support for students' mental health and well-being. The Hunt Institute State Policy Fellows is a bipartisan group of local leaders, including county commissioners, school board members, mayors, and other community leaders who have shown the potential to be effective, and equity-minded education policymakers.

🎉 A big shoutout and heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club of Tarboro! 🎉 Today, SouthWest Edgecombe High School Senior Aerospace Science and JROTC Instructor Sgt. Willie Lester had the honor of speaking at their meeting about the school's JROTC program. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share the wonderful things our students are achieving. A special thank you to the Rotary Club of Tarboro for their generous donation of $2000 to both SouthWest Edgecombe High School and Tarboro High School's JROTC programs. Your support is instrumental in helping our cadets thrive and succeed. THANK YOU for believing in our students and investing in their future. Together, we are making a difference!
